For many people in the trans Latina Community the name Bamby Salcedo is synonymous with Trans Power!
Bamby Salcedo will be this year’s keynote speaker at Trans Pride Seattle 2015.
We are Co-Presenting Bamby with our partners at Entre Hermanos.
Bamby is the founder and Executive Director for the Los Angeles based Trans Latin@s Coalition – the national organization dedicated to advocating for the specific needs of Trans Latin@ immigrants who reside in US and plan advocacy strategies that would improve our quality of life. She is a nationally and internationally recognized trans Latina leader and spent eight dedicated years as the Health Education and HIV Prevention Services Coordinator at the nation’s largest and most experienced clinical program providing multidisciplinary healthcare and services to trans youth.
Bamby has been named one of 14 women of color who rocked 2014 by ColorLines Magazine, she was the 2014 recipient of Lambda Legal’s West Coast Liberty Award for her work on the ground breaking Angles of Change project – a trans youth calendar project that helps fund trans youth healthcare. In response to the immense amount of murders trans women of color have faced, Bamby responded by organizing and leading the Trans Lives Matter National Day of Action – a series of direct actions to draw public attention to the importance of trans lives. Bamby’s work has mediated the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, age, social class, HIV+ status, immigration status and more.
We are honored to be joined by Bamby and to be screening the documentary Trans Visible: The Bamby Salcedo Story – about Bamby’s life, work, and struggle as a trans latina activist in Los Angeles. You can buy your tickets for $3.00 at the Stranger.
